July 5th is one of the busiest days of the year for animal shelters all over the country. Pet owners sometimes underestimate how their pets will react to the loud fireworks going off around them and many pets run away from their homes, ending up in shelters.
Regardless of whether or not your pet has shown any sign of fear towards fireworks or other loud celebrations before, it's always a good idea to prepare for every scenario. Here are some simple tips to help keep your pets calm and at home where they belong!
Keep your pups on a comfy harness and leash and keep them close to you and other family members they feel comfortable with.
Have your diffusers going with one of Young Living's top blends: Peace & Calming, Stress Away, Valor, T-Away, Harmony, or Acceptance. These oils can help keep furry family relaxed and calm during the festivities. You can add additional oils to find the right fit. Some ideas that have worked will for other families are Peace & Calming + Lavender, Valor diluted and rubbed on the fur with Stress Away in the diffuser, and Frankincense + Harmony. Try some different combos and see what works for you and your pets.
Consider getting a calming vest and giving it a try before bigger parties to get an idea of whether or not it provides a calming effect.
Give cats and other animals a quieter and enclosed indoor hideaway they can head in to. Place a drop or two of oils on their bedding and have their favorite toy within the space, too.
And if your fur babies don’t have to be outside on the 4th of July or during other busy and loud gatherings, let them stay inside.
