Caregiver Affirmation for June 2023

Caregiving brings with it a lot of emotions. A lot. Sometimes it's overwhelming...or incredibly rewarding...terribly lonely...frustrating...filled with love...energizing... exhausting...mentally challenging...

Sometimes we feel like there isn't enough time or energy to take care of ourselves. That's why I like to use simple coping mechanisms and self-care tasks that help me refill my cup and I am happy to share them with you, too. Take what you find useful. Maybe try things you haven't tried before. Don't use what doesn't resonate with you. And if you have something that you've found helps you relax, with your mindset, or helps you push through when something feels tough, please share your tips below.

Throughout my day, I like to employ prayer and scripture study, affirmations, and aromatherapy, then I add in other things like acupressure, massage, gardening and grounding, and other easy self-care activities. These are mostly at-home rather than outside expenses, so it's not only kind to me, it's kind to my pocketbook, too.

Each month, I'll be sharing an affirmation we can work together on memorizing and repeating every day through the whole month. Repeating these affirmations helps to trigger and influence the subconscious mind, which leads to belief. And memorizing each affirmation means you'll always have that simple mental tool to use at any time, anywhere.

Here's how I recommend getting this in every day...always say this three times out loud, whenever possible, or in your mind if you absolutely cannot say it aloud:

  • Before getting out of bed.

  • As you are getting ready.

  • As you eat your breakfast.

  • Every hour (or as often as possible / needed) throughout your day.

  • When you get into bed.

Focus on the words as you say them and believe them to be true, even if you don't "feel" it yet. Yes, this will be hokey to some; that's okay - give it a try, anyway. This is about refocusing and training our minds with a simple practice. This won't be an all-powerful quick fix, but it can definitely be a useful coping mechanism.

If you find yourself getting crabbier with this affirmation, it's okay to go back to any of the others we've shared, to find your own that resonates with you, or to use a different path altogether in order to feel uplifted. This is about finding and doing what works best for you!
