Chemicals from creams, soaps, body + home fragrances, deodorants, city-treated water, etc. are absorbed into the skin. These chemicals travel almost directly into the bloodstream, where they cycle through and are dispersed throughout the body.
Only about 10% of the 10,000 chemicals commonly found in the personal care products that line store shelves have any safety data, and many of those ingredients are linked to cancer, reproductive harm, and neurological harm. Since 2009, 595 cosmetics manufacturers have reported using 88 chemicals, in more than 73,000 products, that have been linked to cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm.
